I think that the role of women in the U.S. in 2009 is equal to the role of men. Women can now do almost every job that a man can and vice versa. Women are now working and providing for their families just like men do.
I think men and women will never be quite equal because they are very different, and I think they were supposed to be. There are always exceptions to the rules, but women and men are different socially, physically and mentally.
Sarahlyn, I agree that sometimes men and women might not seem exactly equal because of physical things such as women working on a construction site in a job that requires a lot of heavy lifting.

I personally think that each woman can define her own role in current-day society, and that is terrific. If a woman wants to get a job, go to school, stay at home, travel, marry, be single, she has all of those choices and so many more.

I agree with Saralyn partially. I think that yes, men and women will never be exactly equal but I don't think that is how it is supposed to be. Personally, I think it is the errogance of "hot-headed" men that causes the discrimination of women to still exist today.
